History

Our property was constructed in c1894 and was known as "Willesden". It was a single storey late-Victorian house with a verandah to the front and eastern side. Albert George Ogilvie, Premier of Tasmania from 1934 until his death in 1939, lived in the house from c1920. In c1927 he modernised it by adding a new pile of rooms to the eastern side and adding a second storey. The house was externally converted to Art Deco structure but still retained most of its Victorian interiors. The primary heritage significance of "Willesden" lies within its association with the former Premier, as the Art Deco fabric demonstrates his occupation and modernization of the property.
